Looking for a New Show?

I’m going to keep the theme of my love for Netflix on today’s post…
My GroupMe messages are always filled with friends asking whats a new TV show to watch since they finished up their current show. SO, I thought I would write a post with 10 of my favorite TV series (in no specific order) with reviews in case anyone is looking for something new to watch. I’m going to forego writing about some of the more obvious choices like Grey’s Anatomy or Scandal and you all already know I love Madame Secretary.
1. Gilmore Girls: I’m a HUGE fan. I was skeptical at first to start this series but I was hooked from the start. It’s the opposite from cutesy and actually very funny and well written as well as relatable. Just so you know, I’m team Logan. Watch here.
2. West Wing: I randomly stumbled upon this one day on Netflix and became obsessed. TBH, I wish President Bartlett was actually the President now and its a far lighter version of House of Cards but more realistic than Scandal. The writing is incredible. CJ Craig is also a #badassfemale.
3. Parenthood: Again, another random show I stumbled upon and now all my friends and I LOVE it. It’s one of those shows where you’ll laugh, cry and smile all in one episode. They embrace some tough topics like relationships, autism, single motherhood and PTSD in an extremely approachable way that makes you think. The first few episodes are a little sad but power through them it gets much lighter!
4. Brothers & Sisters: Another family dynamic type show similar to Parenthood but then again extremely different. The patriarch of the family dies in the pilot of the show and the rest of the seasons are tied around discoveries and experiences related to all the children’s late father. It also speaks to relevant topics like homosexuality, political preferences, adoption, injury, illness and much more. Seems serious? Maybe, but you’ll laugh a lot too.
5. The Good Wife: One of my friends said that this show sparked her desire to go to law school and I can completely relate. Alicia Florrick is an incredibly strong and smart protagonist that overcomes several hardships while restarting her law career, after 15 years, at a high powered law firm as a junior associate. It is amazing and filled with GREAT characters.
6. Veep: An extremely underrated show that has me laughing out loud at all times. It is a must-see comedy!
7. The Blacklist: Another underrated show that is SO good. New episodes are still currently airing and I still love it. It’s such a unique story line centered around a career criminal and a top secret FBI task force. The criminal has a unique relationship with one of the characters and while that story constantly unfolds throughout the seasons, most episodes contain a new “blacklister” aka CRAZY criminal that the task force works to catch with the criminal turned informant.
8. Desperate Housewives: I used to watch this in High School and recently watched it all over again when it was added again to Hulu and loved it even more. It’s an emotional roller coaster and the characters are great.
9. People v. O.J. Simpson (FX) and The Menendez Murders (Law & Order True Crime): Both amazing TV series about two notorious crimes and subsequent trials in the US.
10. Big Little Lies: It’s as good as all the critics say it is and deserves all the awards it has one thus far. The book is awesome too. I thought this was going to be one mini-series but its coming back and this time with Meryl Streep.
